Goldwin 0: A New Performance Collection Inspired by Trail Running
Goldwin Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and Representative Director: Takao Watanabe) will relocate and reopen its flagship store in Tokyo, Goldwin Marunouchi, on Saturday, June 21, 2025. This store showcases Goldwin, the company’s original brand.

Following the design of Goldwin Kyoto, this will be the first store in Tokyo to be designed by Tomoyuki Sakakida of the New Material Research Laboratory (SHINSOKEN). Along with offering Goldwin’s meticulously crafted products, which embody functional beauty rooted in traditional and timeless Japanese aesthetics, the store will also feature Goldwin 0’s new performance collection inspired by trail running. The experimental platform taps into the brand’s full potential, with the collection launching ahead of schedule at our newly reopened location.
Since opening Goldwin Beijing in 2021 as our first directly managed store in mainland China, Goldwin has started incorporating a salon space into its store design. Rooted in the brand’s core philosophy of “Dedication to Detail,” this approach has been praised for providing a refined and thoughtful customer experience. The newly reopened Marunouchi store will also include a salon space, providing a comfortable atmosphere and personalized service. Located in Marunouchi, a global hub that draws individuals from all over the world, the store aims to share the brand’s appeal to both domestic and international customers, thereby enhancing its global presence.
■Spatial concept | Goldwin Marunouchi
Goldwin Marunouchi’s design is a further exploration of the concept of “layered chi,” combining the knowledge (chiken) that Goldwin has accumulated over long years of dedication with the beauty of geological strata (chiso) revealed when eon-spanning natural processes are worn away by wind.
The store’s Marunouchi-Nakadori facade uses horizontal strips of bamboo arranged in columns that reach far upward, emphasizing the height of the ceiling, and the walls dividing the interior are carefully placed to create a sense of roominess within the limited space. The front window and salon make use of bamboo and paulownia wood like the Kyoto store. This choice was inspired by auspicious traditional designs of phoenixes amid paulownia and bamboo, the former considered a symbol of good fortune for its spreading branches in maturity and the latter admired for its resilience in even the strongest winds, bowing but not breaking. Exquisitely tight-grained quarter-sawn paulownia is also used on the walls of the rear space that serves as both fitting room and salon, a touch that adds tension and heightens the sense of purity while expressing Goldwin’s brand philosophy of dedication to detail. The spatial composition of the salon facilitates quiet, private shopping yet creates a sense of openness and freedom when the curtain dividers are removed.
The hot rolled steel used on the walls has a wavelike surface pattern from the firing process, here interpreted as a wind motif, and a patina that will deepen with the passage of time. The central counter is large, eye-catching, and visible from the street, and the plants arranged before it usher in the presence of nature in condensed form. Changing by the day and taking nourishment from whatever the wind brings them, these plants also symbolically represent the Goldwin brand.
The wind is also an audible presence. Inspired by the idea of sounds carried on the wind to every corner of the space, a custom-designed speaker dubbed “Ukuoku” plays three layers of sound that overlap in pursuit of the same melody like a round, creating a mild and even “sonic wind” that is not concentrated at a single point but fills the entire space with a rich resonance.
Representations of chi in two senses—the earth as it implacably marks the passing eons, and the wisdom that spurs the Goldwin brand to constant evolution—are thus woven together by the presence of wind sweeping across the entire space. By harmonizing the depth of time spoken of by the materials and the resolute will palpable in the details, we sought to convey the spirit of the brand, breathe a fresh wind into the souls of visitors, and present a future for Goldwin as a brand that continues to change with the times.

■ Goldwin 0 Performance Capsule Collection
This capsule collection marks the Goldwin 0’s first performance collection inspired by trail running. It combines scientific data from the Goldwin Tech Lab, an R&D facility located at Goldwin’s head office in Toyama, with Goldwin 0 Creative Director Nur Abbas, whose design is guided by a deep respect for functional beauty. Using data that analyzes body areas exposed to sunlight and prone to perspiration during running, the garments are designed with strategically placed reflective ventilation zones based on this heatmap. This integration enhances both comfort and safety, elevating the collection into high-performance activity wear. The lineup includes a long-sleeve T-shirt, a half-sleeve T-shirt, shorts, half tights, and a trail pack, thereby offering sustainable support for summer outdoor activities.
