Acquired SBTi Validation for the Net-Zero 2050 TargetsNews

2025.07.02

Goldwin Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Takao Watanabe)has received validation on the net-zero targets for its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets by 2050 from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)(*1), an international certification body dedicated to reducing GHG emissions. The company also received validation for its GHG emission reduction targets and 100% renewable energy procurement target by 2030. These validations recognize that Goldwin’s GHG reduction targets have been appropriately set based on scientific evidence related to the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting the rise in global temperature to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

▮SBTi-certified greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction targets (compared to the base year of 2023)

(1)Long-term targets
(net-zero targets)
2050 targets
• In addition to Scope 1 and 2, reduce GHG emissions by more than 90% from Scope 3(*2) (including purchased products and services, waste from business activities, upstream and downstream transportation and distribution, and end-of-life treatment of sold products), and achieve net-zero through carbon removal for the remaining emissions.
(2)Short-term targets
(1.5°C standard)
2030 targets
•Reduce GHG emissions by 42% for Scope 1 and 2, and by 25% for Scope 3(*2) (apparel product manufacturing and procurement).
(3)100% renewable energy procurement target2030 target
• Increase the proportion of renewable energy in electricity consumption for business activities from 57% to 100%.

Under the environmental sustainability section of its long-term vision of PLAY EARTH 2030, Goldwin has set forth the following key focus areas: “Promotion of Green Design,” “Realization of a Decarbonized Society,” “Realization of a Circular Society,” and “Biodiversity Conservation and Restoration.” It also establishes medium- and long-term goals and actively focuses on environmental improvements. Through concrete efforts toward these goals, Goldwin will continue to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

*1: Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)
An international certification body established in 2015 by the WWF, CDP, World Resources Institute (WRI), and the United Nations Global Compact. It assesses and validates the feasibility of reduction targets set by companies and promotes concrete actions that contribute to sustainable growth.

*2: Scope 1, 2 and 3
• Scope 1: Direct GHG emissions from fuel combustion, etc.
• Scope 2: Indirect GHG emissions from purchased electricity, heat, and other energy use
• Scope 3: All GHG emissions that occur throughout the value chain, other than those in Scope 1 and 2
