Designed without PFAS
Designed with responsibility
Goldwin has established a clear policy to ensure that, beginning with our 2026 collection and beyond, our products are designed without intentionally added PFAS.
While we stay compliant to PFAS regulations implemented in many countries, we are committed to seek new ways to deliver both high performance outdoor products and sustainable craftsmanship.
What’s PFAS
For decades, Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have been widely used on everyday items to give them water- and oil-repellent capabilities and they have also long been used on apparel.
However, recent findings on PFAS’ environmental and biological persistence have driven some EU countries and some states in the U.S. to implement regulations on PFAS. There is a global movement to revisit the PFAS use given their environmental and human impacts.
In response to these challenges, Goldwin has established a clear policy to designed our products without internationally added PFAS and been preparing to move towards using C0 water-repellent agent that does not contain fluorinated compounds and using non-fluorinated waterproof coating.
*Some GREEN BATON, repair products, products for professionals are out of scope for this policy depending on use cases and green values.
Alternative
Material
Selection
As our PFAS use is transitioned to alternative agents, Goldwin has been selecting preferred materials without compromising our product performance. Here are some high-performance fabrics adopted through our initiatives.
Maintenance
One of the characteristics of products with C0 water-repellent coating is that its water-repellent feature is more vulnerable to skin oil, cosmetic products, soil and sand particles, and wear.
We strongly recommend a frequent wash to recover its water-repellent capability, just like your favorite everyday clothes, to keep its performance and extend its life.
Here is how to maintain the water-repellent integrity:
- Neutral liquid detergent is recommended. Please refer to the laundry tag on your product for details.
- The product should be washed frequently before contamination accumulates.
- Ensure to fully rinse away all detergent.
- After drying the product, use an iron or dryer to uniformly apply heat to the product with water-repellent coating. The degraded water-repellent capability is expected to recover as long as the water-repellent agent remains on the product surface.
Appropriate maintenance method for each product with C0 water-repellent coating is different depending on product type and material feature.
Here are some maintenance methods by key product category.

- Washing
-
Carefully review and follow the garment tag. Make sure that all the zippers, pockets, flaps and buttons are closed. Neutral liquid detergent is recommended and press-wash the garment in lukewarm water (40℃ or below). Ensure to fully rinse all detergent at least twice – any residual detergent will lead to poor product performance. Pat with a bath towel or other towels to remove excess moisture as needed.
- Drying
-
Carefully review the tag and follow the instructions to dry the garment.
- Storage
-
Store in a cool, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight and high humidity.
If water no longer beads up on the fabric surface, that is the sign of deteriorated water-repellent capability. The capability will recover by removing the contamination on the fabric surface and applying heat. Try these methods to recover the capability.
-
Tumble dryerAfter drying the garment, hot-air dry it in a tumble dryer.
-
IroningIron the garment at low heat over a pressing cloth.
-
Water-repellent agentIn case the water-repellent capability is not recovered after trying the above two methods, use the commercially available water-repellent agent. Follow the instruction on the agent when applying it.

- Washing

Carefully review and follow the garment tag.
Make sure that all the zippers, pockets, flaps and buttons are closed. The detergent specifically for down product is recommended, or use neutral liquid detergent for down. Avoid using other types of detergent as they may damage down.Fold the product with sleeves, collar and other soiled areas to face outward.
Prepare a tub or large container with lukewarm water (40℃ or below) and add the detergent. Immerse the folded apparel in the water and gently press wash it. Some products cannot be spin dried in the laundry machine. Please follow the instruction on the garment tag for details. - Drying
-
Dry the product in a low humid area away from direct sunlight.
Down will be clumped together when you take it out of the wash. After drying the product, gently massage the clumps to break them up. Naturally drying down products may take time depending on the volume of down and the drying environment. Ensure to fully dry down as it may be damaged if stored without completely drying it. - Storage
-
Ensure to hang or fold the apparel without putting it in a bag and store it in a well-ventilated area.
